Why sell popcorn?

When we conduct a Unit-Money Earning Project it is important that we keep the values of Scouting in mind. One of the goals of Scouting is to teach a Scout to become self-reliant and to earn his own way. Through a proper money-earning project, leaders have the opportunity to show Scouts how they, through their individual and combined efforts, can earn all the money it takes to operate their pack, troop, team or crew for the entire year. The only limiting factor is their level of participation.

Take Orders

Take orders are simply orders that you get from neighbors, friends, and family before the product arrives. Then when the popcorn is delivered to your unit, you take that order to the person that ordered it. Take orders have a special benefit to them - Mystery Houses! The council office has worked with people in the communities to hide some certificates with them. Clues will be given regarding the general area of a mystery house, but to claim it you have to be the first Scout to knock on the door when they are home and sell them some popcorn. The certificate will allow you to claim any available prize from the Mystery House Prize Bin!

Show and Sell

A great way for your unit to earn money is through selling at pre-approved locations throughout your district. Each district negotiates with businesses within the geographic coverage area and has their own method for assigning locations to units within that distric. This is a very popular option for parents who may not have the flexibility in their schedules to walk around neighborhoods with their Scout for take orders.
